A Second Reaction

There's been a lot going on lately. With the two birthdays and Easter we've been busy. Easter was nice. I love being able to stay home and watch conference. General Conference in the Springtime reminds me of bringing home new babies. Having Conference on Easter made it even more exciting. Gma Barnes always has an eggcelent Easter egg hunt at her house. Kendi could hardly wait through both sessions of conference.
Aydri is eating a lot more baby food than she was a few weeks ago. It's hard to go back to spoon feeding when you've gotten so used to her feeding herself finger foods.
Kendi has absolutely no personality!
This was on Aydri's birthday. I can never get a good picture of them looking and smiling at the same time so we settled for just smiling. We had a BBQ at Jared's parents house.
Aydri had her own cake to smash. Not much made it into her mouth.

The birthday girl.
Jared had decided to put Ranch Dressing on his salad at dinner because I don't buy it anymore. It is mayonnaise based and contains eggs. We accidentally fed Aydri off his fork. Jared immediately realized we'd made a mistake and grabbed the Benadryl from the diaper bag just in case. I was hoping she didn't get any egg or that it wouldn't be a big deal. Before I could even get the medicine measured out she already had a rash on her legs. By the time we were done giving it to her it was up to her chest. All of my sisters were with me. They are all in some sort of medical profession and had been discussing my EpiPen debate. They sided with the Pharmacist and I decided not to give it to her right away. The rash seemed to improve with the Benadryl, but we kept a close eye on her. She was miserable for the rest of the party. She almost didn't even want to eat her cake. Poor thing. After about three hours her rash started simmering back and her nose sounded congested so we called the doctor. Of coarse they told us to go to the ER. The ER doctor thought she was stuffy from an eye infection she appeared to be having. I knew she had a cold because her eye always goops up when she's sick. He seemed to think it was conjuctivitist (pink-eye). Can you ask for a 2nd opinion in the ER? It wasn't a big deal so we just monitored her for a while, got some prescriptions for the reaction and went home. Getting the Benadryl in her quickly helped the reaction not get so out of control. All the ER staff were nice and sympathetic because it was her birthday. We are feeling like pretty lousy parents.

Latest Painting by Jared

Jared wanted to do a painting for the Springville Art Museum Spring Salon. Unfortunately, the painting wasn't dry in time and he didn't feel comfortable entering it wet. Oh well, I guess I get to keep it now. ;)

Life Goes On

Aydri is doing really well. So far we've been able to survive without eggs. It's actually not as hard as I thought it would be. I've never really liked eggs and to be honest I haven't noticed much of a difference in my diet. Aydri is back to basically baby food and crackers. There are a couple of our favorite things that we'll try to find good egg substitutes for, but until we meet with the allergenist we don't use eggs at all. Its amazing how many people we've bumped into that don't eat eggs. Someone told me its the most common allergy and eggs also give some people migranes. Thanks to everyone for all the helpful information and for showing us that life can go on as normal. Here is a picture of Aydri the night she had the reaction. It just goes to show how amazing and happy she is even when she isn't feeling well. I think she knows that giving out smiles makes people happy. We had to keep her clothes off because heat made the rashes worse and we needed to see when they were coming back.

The next morning was Kendi's birthday. I let her dress herself for her ballet lesson. The whole ensamble says a lot about her personality. We love her to death.

Jared took her to lunch and she got to pick. We don't like taking our kids to play places for obvious reason, but this one we drive past every time we go to Gma and Gpa Barnes. Kendi's been begging for months to go there. There weren't many kids and it was surprisingly clean.
I know I don't show a lot of pictures of me on the blog, but Jared actually took one. I cut my bangs recently. This is me thinking about Aydri and trying not to freak out and demand that she never leaves my side again. I've calmed down since then.
Kendi had her "friend" birthday party later that day. We did a Dora party this year. I'm not a good party planner, but it helps when you pick a theme. Jared painted a Swiper that stole the cupcakes while the kids were playing "Don't Eat Boots." They had to go on a treasure hunt to find them. We weren't very good at taking pictures at the party. Our minds were overloaded at this point. The kids had colored and decorated "Backpacks" like Dora's to put their candy in.
Some of Kendi's friends and cousins.

I had planned on using the day before her birthday to get everything ready and make the cakes, but we spent most of the day in the ER, doctor's office and pharmacy. So we made her cake the day after just before the "family" party. Thanks again to everyone that helped make this birthday go smoothly. Her cake was supposed to be frosting and Dora, but it was easier to just do the whole thing with fondant. We also made the cake without eggs so it really didn't taste good to me, but it looks great in pictures.
The birthday girl.
Here is Aydri on drugs. She wouldn't stop spitting.

I found an Easy Bake Oven on Ebay for $2. Kendi loves to bake and cook and had actually asked for her own kitchen for her birthday. This has been fun.
She also got the cake decorating kit. Its electronic. I think it will come in handy for me too.
No its not Halloween, but Kendi is obsessed with it all year long.
